The Wine Country Marines takes pleasure in awarding the Lifetime Achievement Award to Colonel Warren Jaycox, USMCR (Retired) who is the founder and inspirational leader of the Wine Country Marines and the Wine Country Marine Corps Birthday Ball.
Without question, the Wine Country Marines and the Wine Country Marine Corps Birthday Ball would never have gotten off the ground without his dedication and hard work. The fact that we are still going strong since our beginning in 1984 is directly attributed to his organizational skills, guidance and leadership. It was also his long-term vision for us to form a 501 C (3) nonprofit corporation and become more than just the sponsor of a military ball. In 2006, his long-term vision was fulfilled.
As a Marine: Colonel Jaycox earned his commission as a Second Lieutenant via a Navy ROTC “Bulldog Option” Program scholarship at RiceUniversity in Houston, Texas. After earning his undergraduate degree, he served on active duty as an infantry officer with the 1st Marine Division and retired from the Marine Corps Reserve at the rank of “Full” Colonel. As an Educator: Colonel Jaycox earned a PhD Degree in Education from the University of Southern California (yes, he is both a Colonel and a Doctor!). He eventually became the Superintendent of the SonomaValleyUnifiedSchool District. As a Businessman: Colonel Jaycox and Flo Beth White (along with their spouses) founded the Sonoma Airporter (door-to-door shuttle service to the San FranciscoInternationalAirport). In doing so, they helped fill a very real need of this valley and made it a better place to live and work. Today, Colonel Jaycox is a real estate “Business” Broker specializing in helping people fulfill the dream of owning their own business. As a Community Leader: Colonel Jaycox has helped many worthy organizations. In addition to being the founder of both the Wine Country Marines and the Wine Country Marine Corps Birthday Ball, he has served as the President of the Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau and he was the Chairman of the Sonoma Valley Veterans Memorial Park Committee. He is also a Freemason and a member of Temple Lodge No. 14 in Sonoma. As a Philanthropist: Colonel Jaycox has served on the Board of Directors for many nonprofit organizations to include: Devil Pups, Inc. He also serves as a Deacon for his church and he has served as a missionary in foreign countries more than once. Last but not least, Colonel Jaycox is a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. "Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they have ever made a difference in the World. Colonel Warren Jaycox doesn't have that problem."
